How I handle your data

This site is mine and I run it on my own. I have no employees, I sell data to nobody and I do no profiling. The information I collect is there to answer you when you write to me, to make and ship your knife if you decide to order one, and to know which pages of the site are being read.

Below is the full version, as the law requires.

Who I am

I am the data controller. For anything concerning your data, write to me at that address: I will answer, not an office.

When you write to me from the contact form

The form asks you for your name, your email address, the part of the world you are writing from and your message. The region is there so I can see at once whether there is a shipping problem or a local rule about knives, so that I can tell you beforehand and not after.

What you write reaches my mailbox and is also saved in the site database, so that I do not lose the message if sending the email should fail.

  • Why I may do this: because you asked me to. In legal terms, the processing is there to follow up your request and any negotiations before a contract (Article 6(1)(b) of EU Regulation 2016/679, the GDPR). I do not ask you for consent because none is needed, and asking for it would be improper.
  • How long I keep it: 36 months from our last exchange. Then I delete it. If you ask me to delete it sooner, I delete it sooner.
  • If you do not give it to me: I cannot answer you, and that is the only consequence.

When you order a knife

To issue the invoice and to ship, I need your tax details and the delivery address.

  • Why I may do this: to perform the contract, and because tax law requires it of me (Article 6(1)(b) and (c)).
  • For how long: ten years, as tax and civil law require. On this I have no margin, not even if you ask me to delete.

When you are just visiting

The server automatically records IP address, browser type, pages viewed, date and time. This is how any website works: it is what keeps it running and what defends it from attack.

  • Why I may do this: legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and working (Article 6(1)(f)).
  • For how long: as long as the hosting provider keeps its own logs.

Visit statistics

I use a statistics program that runs on my own site: the data stays in my database, it does not end up with Google or with anyone else. It tells me which pages are read and which countries visitors come from. Nothing else.

It sets no cookie on your device, and no trace of your IP address remains in the database: in its place a code is saved, together with the approximate country and city worked out at the moment of the visit.

  • Why I may do this: legitimate interest in understanding how the site is doing and in improving it (Article 6(1)(f)). Since the statistics stay here, are not cross-referenced with other sites and are seen by nobody else, your consent is not needed.
  • For how long: I keep them with no set term, and there is a precise reason: they are there to compare one year with another. A site like this one publishes few things and has seasons very unlike each other — telling whether a page is doing better or worse makes sense looking back over years, not months. What remains is page counts, a code that is linked to no name, and the approximate city: keeping them puts nobody on display.
  • If you would rather not be counted: just block the scripts with your browser’s protections or an extension. The site works all the same and the count does not start.

Cookies, and why there is no banner

This site uses no profiling cookies, carries no advertising and loads nothing from anyone else’s servers. The typefaces are hosted here, and the map on the Contact page is a photograph, not an interactive map: neither of them sets off any request to the outside.

That is why you will not find the little window asking you to accept cookies: it is not needed, because there is nothing to accept. If that seems odd, it is because it has become rare, not because something is missing.

The only cookies the site sets have to do with logging in to the admin area, which only I use.

The customers’ videos

On the page given over to them are the videos customers have filmed with my knives, which live on their own YouTube channels.

Until you open one, YouTube receives nothing. What you see on the page is a still image kept on my own site, not a piece of YouTube embedded in it: no request goes out to Google while you are reading.

From the moment you press play, the video comes from Google, and from there its own terms apply, which you will find at policies.google.com/privacy. The link uses the youtube-nocookie.com address, the version that collects less.

You decide, with one click, whether and when to let Google into this page.

Who your data goes to

Only to those who need it for things to work, and none of them may use it for themselves:

  • The hosting provider, which hosts the site and the mail (Aruba S.p.A., servers in Italy)
  • The carrier, when I ship, which receives name and address (usually UPS)
  • My accountant, for tax obligations

I do not transfer data outside the European Union, except when I ship a knife outside Europe: in that case name and address go to the carrier and to the customs of the destination country, because it is the only way for the parcel to arrive.

I do not sell, hand over or trade your data with anyone.

What you can ask me for

At any time you can ask me to see the data I hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict its use, to receive it in a file and to object to the processing. Write to info@fabbroforgiatore.com: I answer within a month, usually much sooner.

If you think I am getting it wrong you can turn to the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (www.garanteprivacy.it), or to the courts.

If you buy a knife, I may write to you now and then

When you buy something from me your address stays in my records, and I may use it to tell you that a new series has come out, or a piece like the one you took. It happens rarely, and I pass your address to nobody.

You can tell me no whenever you like: reply to the email or write me a line, I stop at once and you owe me no explanation. You can tell me now, before it ever happens.

The law allows this in exactly this case — my own customers, my own products of the same kind — without your having to sign anything. If instead you only write to me, without buying, I use your address to answer you and for nothing else.

What I do not do

I do no profiling and I make no automated decisions about you. I do not sell, hand over or trade anyone’s address.

This privacy notice is also available in Italian. In the event of any discrepancy between the two versions, the Italian version prevails.
