Shipping

How I ship

As a rule I use UPS, with a standard service that over the years has proved adequate: no parcel lost, and four returned to sender.

Every parcel goes out tracked. I send you the tracking number as soon as the knife leaves the workshop.

The service I normally offer is UPS Expedited. If you are in a hurry you can ask me for a faster service and pay the difference; if it happens that I use a better one myself, the price stays the one we agreed.

You can also collect in person at the workshop, in Frabosa Sottana, or send someone to collect for you.

What it costs

The cost depends on destination, weight and the service chosen: I tell you when we settle the order, before you confirm, and you pay it together with the balance.

There are no hidden costs on my side. Duties and import taxes in your country are a separate matter and do not pass through me: see below.

How long it takes

The parcel leaves when the knife is finished and you have paid the balance. From there, with the UPS Expedited service I normally use, the average times are:

  • Italy and Europe: 3-5 working days
  • Outside the European Union: 3-7 working days, plus the time spent in customs, which cannot be foreseen and is not in the hands of either of us

These are averages, not promises: a customs hold, a day of bad weather or a strike will stretch them.

Making times are a different matter, and a much longer one: you will find them in the Terms of Use.

If the parcel is lost or arrives damaged

As long as I am the one arranging the shipment, the risk is mine until the parcel is in your hands. If it does not arrive, or arrives damaged, tell me: I open the claim with the carrier and I sort it out, without you having to chase anyone.

Check the parcel at delivery. If the packaging is dented or open, accept it with a written reservation on the carrier’s delivery note: it is the only thing that puts in writing that the damage was already there on arrival. Then photograph the packaging before you open it, and if you can, film yourself opening it.

Tell me as soon as you notice: the more time passes between delivery and the report, the harder it becomes to establish when the damage happened.

This is not an obligation, and it is as much in your interest as in mine. Without that evidence the carrier almost always refuses the claim, and we have no way of showing that the damage happened in transit and not after delivery: the reservation on the delivery note, together with the photographs, is the only thing that tells the two apart.

The one exception is when you yourself engage a carrier that I did not offer you — your own freight forwarder, a courier you send to collect. In that case my part ends when I hand the parcel over, and from there on the claim is yours to open.

Customs and duties

Outside the European Union the parcel goes through your country’s customs. I give you all the help I can so that it goes as smoothly as possible, and I am always available for anything through whichever channel we have been in touch. Duties, import VAT and customs clearance charges are yours to pay and are not included in what you pay me. I cannot foresee the amount: it depends on the law where you live.

I always declare the real value of the contents. I do not declare a lower value and I do not mark the parcel as a gift: it is a request I get from time to time and do not accept, because it is a false customs declaration and because it would wipe out any compensation if the parcel were lost.

Where I ship

I ship worldwide, but the rules on knives change from country to country, and some forbid or restrict the import of fixed blades of this size.

Checking that the knife can be imported and lawfully kept where you live is your responsibility. If a parcel is held or seized under a local rule, I am sorry to say I cannot refund the knife — unless the hold is down to a mistake of mine in the paperwork, in which case it is on me.

If you are in any doubt, write to me before ordering, telling me where you are writing from. We will work out together what can be worked out — it is also why the contact form asks which part of the world you are writing from.

This page is also available in Italian. In the event of any discrepancy between the two versions, the Italian version prevails.
